⁵⁴ Peter^(A) followed Him at a distance, right into the high priest’s courtyard. He was sitting with the temple police,^[a](B) warming himself by the fire.^[b]

⁵⁵ The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin^(C) were looking for testimony against Jesus to put Him to death,^(D) but they could find none. ⁵⁶ For many were giving false testimony^(E) against Him, but the testimonies did not agree.
